PROJECTS

In previous years, ECP carried out scientific research and monitoring activities on several bird species, with particular attention to social behaviour, vocal communication and breeding dynamics.

Among the projects currently in their final phase are:

  • Vocal behaviour of the grey heron: a case study in the Po Valley
An investigation of vocal behaviour in the grey heron (Ardea cinerea), focusing on reproductive dynamics, parental care and sibling conflict, in order to deepen knowledge of the species’ behavioural ecology and to improve the management of nesting sites.

At present, ECP concentrates most of its efforts on the Northern Tanzania Secretarybird Project, launched in January 2023 and dedicated to the study and conservation of the secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius) in northern Tanzania. This initiative represents the core of the Association’s strategic activities, combining scientific research, capacity building, field-based training, conservation actions and community engagement.
