We present a short 7-minute video dedicated to the breeding biology of the Secretarybird in the Serengeti ecosystem. The video guides viewers through all stages of the reproductive cycle of this extraordinary raptor, from courtship to breeding, from egg laying to incubation, and finally to parental care and the fledging of the juveniles.

The short video was entirely self-produced and created for educational purposes, with the aim of sharing and making accessible knowledge about a species that is now increasingly threatened. The Serengeti is in fact one of the last strongholds for the Secretarybird, not only in East Africa but across much of the African continent.

The information presented in the video is the result of over three years of research on the species’ reproductive ecology, during which around 150 nests were monitored across northern Tanzania and 26 camera traps were installed directly at the nests. To make every detail of development visible, the video focuses in particular on a single nest, following step by step the stages of egg laying, incubation, and rearing of the nestlings, from hatching to the first flight.

Knowledge is the first toward conservation. We hope this video will help raise awareness of the Secretarybird and the importance of protecting the ecosystems that still ensure its survival.
